The Grandeur of Savannah, GA Real Estate
Day-to-day life in Savannah is young and bustling, but the city’s old Southern custom ensures that it shall always sustain its calm. Savannah, this humble city that merrily welcomes the entire world, derives its name from the Native American word for “grassy plain”. Savannah has come an extremely long journey from its original existence as the quiet plain.
Living up to the reputation of being “hostess city of the South”, Savannah treats both residents and visitors to captivating squares, blooming garden parks, culture, a diverse variety of entertainment, and tasty food. The city of Savannah personifies the southern belle: fascinating, kind, fresh and noble.
The twenty-four squares which are neatly arranged here and there through the historical metropolitan area constitute the essence of downtown. General James Ogelthorpe , between creating the colony of Georgia, fighting off the Spanish threat and working toward peaceful cohabitation with the Creek Indians, is to be credited with laying the city plan for Savannah, much of which remains intact today. These famous squares form the historical, cultural, and literal heart of the city, and it's many activities spread outward from there. Each one of the squares tells a tale of local and world history, having survived the Revolutionary and Civil Wars.
Art and culture are witnessed on every corner of Savannah’s fun-filled streets, throughout every season. Savannah’s Music Festival in March and the Jazz Festival in September fill the air with cool melodies. African Americans, Greeks, Irish, Scots and Asians, among others, share their culture with cultural festivals spread throughout different seasons of the year. Meanwhile, students of the Savannah College of Art and Design enchant the visitors when they bring the sidewalks of Forsyth Park to life during the Sidewalk Art Festival. Savannah’s indoor cultural scene is packed with over eighty museums, art galleries, and theaters.
The outskirts of Savannah offer the comfort of a small town for families who would prefer quietness and space, while the inside of the city offers a big city feel with three universities , great shopping, and a nightlife that seems to start in and expand out from CityMarket.
Those fortunate people who reside in Savannah spend their leisure time the way most people spend vacations -- moderate temperatures open the door for a tremendous variety of outdoor activities, nearby beaches, golf courses, and blues bars. . Even the public transport system is stress-free. The Chatham Area Transit (CAT) operates an efficient system of buses, trolleys, and a ferry for those crossing the Savannah River.
It should be no surprise that Savannah is regularly listed as one of America's top 10 most beautiful cities. Savannah’s magnetic appeal stands out to a prominent variety of tastes. These diverse interests and lifestyles coexist in a pleasant way, which serves to contribute to Savannah’s growth. Artists give its culture, small businesses encourage tourists and benefit as a result of them, and big industry thrusts the economy forward. Thus, this petite city, with her large city mentality, knows how to get the world’s attention without even having to try.
